Best Practices

Do It Right. Preserve Value.

These are the same procedures we recommend in the shop to avoid expensive damage and rework.

Mechanical Preservation

  • Prime the oil system before first startup after rebuild
  • Use high-zinc oil for flat tappet cam engines
  • Inspect cooling annually (overheating causes major failures)
  • Replace old rubber fuel lines with ethanol-safe hose
Why it matters: Incorrect startup and fluid choices can permanently damage classic engines.

Fiberglass & Body Integrity

  • Avoid aggressive sanding heat (fiberglass distorts)
  • Test-fit panels before final paint
  • Inspect bonding strips during C3 restoration work
  • Use pro-grade panel bonding adhesives only
Why it matters: Distortion and poor bonding repairs are expensive to correct later.

Interior Preservation

  • Replace seat foam when installing new covers
  • Use SEM Color Coat for factory-correct vinyl refinishing
  • Install sound deadening before carpet
  • Protect dash pads from UV exposure
Why it matters: Interior shortcuts show immediately and reduce resale value.

Storage & Long-Term Care

  • Use fuel stabilizer for seasonal storage
  • Maintain battery with a tender
  • Control humidity to prevent corrosion and mold
  • Adjust tire pressure to prevent flat spots
Why it matters: Storage damage is avoidable and often costs more than a season of proper prep.
